A Mental Health Care Plan is a document your Doctor can prepare to assist you to claim Medicare rebates for Psychological Therapy. The plans are suitable for people who have a diagnosed ‘mental disorder’, if you think you may be eligible please see the details below about accessing a plan.

How do I get a mental health care plan?

Visit your Doctor who will assess whether you are eligible and could benefit from a psychological therapy supported by a Mental Health Care Plan. When booking to see your Doctor for this assessment, ask if a long appointment, as your doctor will need time to ask a you some questions and complete the plan with you.

What does a mental health care plan cover?

If you have a mental health care plan, you will be entitled to claim Medicare rebates for up to 10 appointments with a Psychologist in a year. The first part of the plan will approve you for rebates for the first 6 sessions, after which your Psychologist will advise you of the need to return to see your Doctor for a Mental Health Care Plan review and another referral.

DOES THAT MEAN MY SESSIONs WILL BE FREE?

No - as we are not a bulk billing clinic, you pay the full session fee to us then we provide a claimable receipt which you submit to Medicare in order to claim your rebate.

Do I need a referral letter?

Yes, all Mental Health Care Plans need to be accompanied by a referral letter, referring you specifically to Mind Body Well.
