About iRest

iRest Yoga Nidra is an approach to deep relaxation and meditation which stems from the traditional teachings of Yoga integrated with modern Psychological science, offering a wholistic practice to enhance mental health and wellbeing.

The iRest approach was developed by Dr Richard Miller from the Integrative Restoration Institute, and has been extensively researched with participants in the program reporting benefits in the following areas:

  • Decreased stress, anxiety, fear and depression
  • Decreased insomnia and sleep disturbances
  • Decreased perception of chronic and acute pain
  • Improved interpersonal relations
  • Increased energy levels
  • Increased sense of control in their lives
  • More confidence and joy in their lives
  • Greater sense of peace and well-being
  • (from www.irest.us)

The iRest approach to relaxation and meditation was originally developed to assist people who had experienced trauma, and it can be particularly effective for those seeking ways to manage difficult or uncomfortable emotional states.

iRest offers a step by step practical approach to Mediation which can help you really learn the stages involved in going inward in a safe and practical way. The practices are verbally led by the teacher, with a clear structure providing guidance and security as you experience the practice. Once you learn the steps and stages of the practice, your own self-lead meditation practice then then becomes more accessible, as you have a structure and process to guide you through.
