How do I get AN EAting disorder management plan?
Visit your Doctor who will assess whether you are eligible and could benefit from a psychological and/or dietetic therapy supported by an Eating Disorder Management Plan. When booking to see your Doctor for this assessment, ask if a long appointment, as your doctor will need time to ask a you some questions and complete the plan with you.
What do I need to provide to Mind Body Well?
We will need a copy of your Eating Disorder Management Plan along with a Referral Letter from your Doctor to enable us to include the appropriate information your receipt, which you then submit to Medicare for claiming. See further details about Medicare claiming at THIS LINK.
What if my Doctor isn’t aware of the Eating Disorder Management Plan process?
You can direct them to THIS PAGE on our website, which provides information for Doctors.
What does an eating disorder management plan cover?
If you have an Eating Disorder Management Plan, you will be entitled to claim Medicare rebates for up to 40 appointments with a Psychologist in a year, and up to 20 sessions with a Dietitian.
Psychology sessions - are approved in blocks of 10, and will need to be reviewed with your Doctor at the end of each block of 10. You will require an assessment by a Psychiatrist in order to access sessions beyond the 20th with the Psychologist. Please discuss this requirement with your Doctor
Dietetic sessions - all 20 are approved at the beginning of treatment
What’s required for the Session 20 Specialist Review?
Prior to your Doctor approving sessions beyond 20 (with the Psychologist), they will need to refer you to a Psychiatrist or Paediatrician who is required to:
confirm your diagnosis
evaluate your response to therapy so far, and
make recommendations as to whether further session are needed.
This specialist review can occur anytime prior to session 20, so it’s a good idea to plan ahead for this - especially given there can be a delay in booking an appointment with a Psychiatrist or Paediatrician. Please provide a copy of your specialist review to your Psychologist, along with your session 20 review from your Doctor.
DOES the plan MEAN MY SESSIONs WILL BE FREE?
No - as we are not a bulk billing clinic, you pay the full session fee to us then we provide a claimable receipt which you submit to Medicare in order to claim your rebate.
Do I need a referral letter?
Yes, all Eating Disorder Management Plans need to be accompanied by a referral letter, referring you specifically to Mind Body Well.
